The Primadonna's primary driving force is to make a difference for a higher cause. Some would call it a calling. The Primadonna feels a personal obligation to make a difference for a cause that lies outside of themselves.
## The Primadonna's Kick
A Primadonna gets a primary kick when they manage to make a difference for the cause in practice, and when it happens, they experience strong existential meaning. The cause is an undercurrent that drives the Primadonna every day, but the existential kick is a relatively rare event. Usually, it's something that the Primadonna experiences at most a couple of times a year because it requires the Primadonna to reach a very high standard and at the same time clearly see that they have succeeded in making a difference for the cause. However, the kick has such great strength that it can be remembered for a very long time afterward, and when the Primadonna recalls an original kick, it can trigger an existential mini-kick.
## Kick-stories
A central feature of the Primadonna's kick-stories is that they are rarely tales of personal triumphs where the Primadonna is the hero of the story. The story is often directed outwardly towards, for example, a citizen or a customer, whom they felt they made a difference for.
The kick-story can easily include lost battles, as long as the effort made a difference for the cause, and the Primadonna is often extremely humble towards the cause.
## Behavior Pattern
When this archetype is called the Primadonna, it's because the Primadonna can sometimes exhibit behavior that others categorize as hysterical, self-centered, arrogant primadonna whims.
The Primadonna is not an individualist in a negative sense. They can easily be a good team player and find meaning in a joint effort. But the responsibility for the cause is a personal responsibility that cannot be passed on to others.
If the Primadonna finds that people whose efforts they depend on do not show the same will or duty to strive for the high standard, the personal sense of duty towards the cause will come into play, and the Primadonna themselves will take care of the cause. In some cases, they will show great irritation that others are not willing to strive for the highest standard. In those situations, they may also feel lonely and feel that others are failing the cause.
If you think your Primadonna employee is acting arrogant, know-it-all, or self-centered, remember to look behind the behavior. There is a lot at stake for the Primadonna.
If your Primadonna feels hindered from reaching the highest standard, they feel not just demotivated. They feel a loss of existential meaning, along with the feeling that they are being forced to sell out on behalf of the higher cause.
